What’s in Season in South Africa?

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Lizel Salter South Africans live from season to season, eating what the earth gives them. A variation in latitude and height above sea level as well as the effect of ocean currents causes a great variety of climatic conditions throughout the country. There are three main rainfall-regions, divided into a winter rainfall in the south western part of the country including the Western Cape, rain all year round along the southern coastal belt and a summer rainfall in the rest of the country. Rainfall varies between around 125 mm per year along the arid western coast and 1 000 mm a year on the eastern coast. Rainfall is irregular with less than 10% of the country receiving around 750 mm of rain per year. The other 90% receive less than this. The summers in South Africa are very hot with mostly cloudless days, but in the winter, only a few areas are frost-free. If you travel to South Africa during October to May (mainly) you can go to farms and pick your own fruit. Make sure you check what times they are open so you won’t be disappointed. During November you can watch out for Strawberries. December is the correct month for strawberries, raspberries, loganberries, boysenberries, cherries and peaches. In January you can pick black currents, apricots, cherries, raspberries and strawberries. February is the month for raspberries, strawberries, apricots, nectarines, peaches and apples. During the fall you can pick raspberries, strawberries, nectarines, peaches and apples and during April you can still pick some strawberries, apples and even grapes. So when can you expect to buy certain fruits? Dont be caught out, just take a look at which fruit is in season during the year. Nectarines and plums can be bought from November through to April, while you can enjoy Apricots and Litchis between November and February. Other fruits you can enjoy during the summer months include peaches from October to February, grapes during the months of December to May, melons between January and March and mangoes from December to April. If you travel to South Africa during the colder months, you can sink your teeth into apples from March to September, oranges and grapefruit during the winter and spring months of April to November and grapefruit between April and September. If you are looking for something more sour, lemons is just the thing for you to get during the months of March to November. Easy peelers are available between April and September and my favourite, avocados, can be enjoyed from March to October of each year. Guavas can be bought in May while prickly pears are available during January and February. Pears you find most of the year, with the season running from January to October, while pineapples grow in South Africa all year round. If you love cherries, make sure you keep your eyes open. If you close it for too long, you will miss it! Cherry season is a short 6 weeks, between the months of December and the beginning of January. You can find pretty much most vegetables throughout the year. These include baby marrow, butternut squash, various types of pumpkin, green beans, various other beans, carrots, beetroot, broccoli, cauliflower, cassava, cabbage, cucumber, mushrooms, onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, spinach, sweet peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, mealies (white mealies and sweet corn, which is yellow) and many more. Potatoes are grown all over the country, so when one part has a winter rainfall and the other a summer rainfall, they transport the produce to the necessary area. Mealies are planted during November and harvested during the month of March. As this finishes, the sunflowers and wheat are planted. Make sure you know which fruits are in season so you know what to look forward to when you travel. All fruit and vegetables are filled with fibre, vitamins and minerals, so make sure you eat lots and lots of it. Enjoy! Who Else Is Interested In Weight Loss?

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Matt Taylor We all have heard the statistics 2 out of 3 American adults are either overweight or obese. And I am sure that many modern countries have similar statistics. We are also aware of the associated health risk. And if you are reading this chances are you are not happy with your body, worried about your health or you want to make some changes in your life. And this is good news for you You see we dont do anything until the pain of NOT doing it becomes greater than the pain of doing it. To put it in simpler terms we dont do anything about our weight until we are so sick and tired of worrying about it that we actually start reading about weight loss, getting a health club membership and shopping for healthy foods. However, most of us go about this the wrong way We tend to use the scattergun approach and run around trying to do everything that we think is right about reducing our weight. And the very first thing we generally do is finding some health magazines, buy some exercise junk from the info-commercials or read some of the latest diet fad books. We tend to look at these sources as the means to solving our weight problems. Well Most of the weight loss programs or weight loss diets are frauds or too narrowly focused on obscure pseudo science. Where they once sought the elusive alchemist to make gold out of lead we now do the same thing in our search for our goal of weight loss. I hate to say; I told you so but Most of the weight loss diets are wishful thinking and the Geneva Convention should ban most of the exercise programs out there. Because the weight loss products dont work as we usually find out in a few weeks. And the manufacturers for the weight loss products that you bought are just laughing all the way to the bank. That is right The weight loss industry makes billions of dollars each year. And! Our society is getting fatter and fatter. Which leads to the conclusion Most weight loss products dont WORK! Read that again And forget about the diet pills. They can be dangerous for you I think many people in the weight loss industry should go to jail. It is criminal the way they promote their stuff when they know it doesnt work. For instance, how many times have you seen a stomach exercise thingy on info-commercial TV and said, Wow! But the truth of the matter is nobody is EVER going to see your washboard stomach under all your fat What if I told you that we should naturally get the lean, muscular body that we want because that is how our bodies were designed by genetics? Think about it this way, farming was invented around 10,000 years ago. For a million years up to farming we thrived on hunting animals, eating fruits and berries, and digging for roots. We would walk everywhere on foot. We get things done with our hands. And I bet you the last dollar in my pocket we were extremely healthy and fit. And yeah, the average life span way back then was no more than 30 years old. That can be explained by the simple fact that nobody knew anything about medical care. So the simple things like broken bones or cuts were a death sentence. But I digress So we started getting fatter after farming was invented and started eating more refined carbohydrates from grains and sugars. And the modern life that we have chosen has made us so busy that we actually forgot how to walk around and use our muscles to gain strength. Ever heard of the principle of Occams Razor? “All things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the best one.” The simplest reason why our society is getting fatter is because we are eating foods that make us fat and practice the sedentary lifestyle of sitting on the couch. Losing weight to improve your health is an admirable goal. Keep this in mind when looking for weight loss tips make this something YOU want to do. By Balaji B Asthma is a respiratory disorder characterized by abnormal lung condition in which accumulation of mucus in the lungs is found. Natural asthma remedies are the most preferred way of treating asthma since the conventional methods of treatment for asthma may have a lot of side effects. Wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness are some of the symptoms caused by the narrowing or obstruction of the airways. Can I Buy SIM Cards Overseas When I Get There?

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Dulaney]John Dulaney 3 color copies of your passport photo, 2-3 copies of your passport page, your home address and tel. numbers, you family’s first and last names and your place of work. In addition come of them require information you likely don’t even have on hand. Also, you’ll have to take a taxi ride to a specialized shop and then a taxi back to your hotel. Often it can take 1-2-3-4 hours to complete the purchase depending on how busy the shop it, how expert the salesman is and how their computers are feeling that day. Often once you arrive you have left out some form or piece of information and you’ll have to run around and get it and come back.On the whole buying your SIM CARD in the USA from a reliable company such as www.planetomni.com means getting your card in the states without any hassle of registration at all. They can even give you your overseas phone number when you place the order. They also ship worldwide in case you need it and/or an unlocked cell phone shipped to where you are. To most popular destinations that means 1-2 day service. If you’re a frequent overseas business traveler, you’ve likely encountered the frustrations of using a cell phone abroad. Here is some advice… Buy Local (Foreign) SIMs in the US or Use an International SIM The way to save on international cell phone us is to buy a pre-paid SIM card from a phone company in the country you will be visiting. These SIMs can be purchased in the US and local SIMs can sometimes be purchased overseas. Be aware though, that if you buy SIMs overseas there might be residency requirements, you will not get your phone number until you arrive and the instructions will be in the local language. It may actually cost less to buy a sim card in the USA because of needing to go to a special shop but considering you get the number in advance (usually) and the instructions in English, it’s worth it. Before departure, he said, find out whether your phone will work at your destination, and if so, whether you can activate the international roaming access function that would allow you to receive and make calls. However this mean very costly roaming fees and your incoming calls can be costly and always your outgoing calls are expensive. If the phone is not compatible with local technology, you’ll have to consider renting, buying or borrowing a local cell phone or getting one in advance from a company like http://www.planetomni.com in California. They have Factory Unlocked GSM cell phones both to buy International Cell Phones and to rent Cell Phone Rental They ship worldwide and have cellular service for more than 170 countries (there are only 193 countries on earth!).If your phone is compatible, you’ll need to decide whether you want to get your phone unlocked so that it can accept a local SIM card — the ID chip that carries your local phone number. For it to be compatible it must be GSM standard and be of the correct NETWORK BAND for the country you are going to. There are 4 bands, 850/900/1800/1900Mhz. The advantage behind the LOCAL PHONE NUMBER option? With a local phone number you can receive local calls and avoid the $1-$2 per minute international roaming charges you’d otherwise incur with a U.S.-based SIM card. Unlike U.S.-based service, where you pay for both making and receiving calls, in Europe (and most foreign countries) only the calling party pays, However, once you leave the country of the local SIM card, the calls you receive from there will rack up international roaming charges. There are 2 ways to skirt that problem: #1 is to buy country specific SIM cards for every country you visit, provided that your phone is compatible. Once again http://www.planetomni.com/Prod_SIM.shtml If you try to buy them overseas it can be either impossible or very frustrating and expensive or impossible. The hassle with that option: You have to inform your contacts of your new cell phone number each time since you won’t have your foreign cell phone numbers until you buy them.Getting them from www.planetomni.com first means you can have your numbers even at the time you place the order. Just call them direct for more info. 800-815-9380 or from outside the USA 925-686-9945 or email: jd@quantumstar.com. #2 is to buy a single sim card good for more than one country. That way you give out a single cell phone number but good for between 110 and 160 countries depending on which international sim card you buy. You can see them here: http://www.planetomni.com/Prod_SIM.shtml At least with one of those two your incoming calls while in western Europe will still be free to you, night and day, from every country and phone on earth. Calling the states from all western European countries is a flat rate of US$0.97 per minute, always. Compare that to using the, for example, German country specific sim card at $2.50 per minute and you’ll see that sometimes its cheaper to get one of the international sim cards. Because companies generally foot the bill for business travelers, they may choose to forego the local SIM card option in favor of renting phones or using their own phones and swallowing the international roaming charges. Americans are at a disadvantage when it comes to cell phones overseas, because most of the world uses a GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) standard. While T-Mobile and Cingular use that standard, Verizon and Sprint operate on the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) standard, which is popular in North America but not supported everywhere else. But most carriers lock their GSM phones to their service so they can’t be used with other providers and you must also be aware that most American GSM phones don’t have the needed foreign networks in them so they won’t work overseas anyway. If you go to the U.K. or Germany or most everywhere in the world, your Sprint or Verizon will not work at all.Consider the battle between GSM and CDMA. The GSM standard outsells the other flavor, the flavor used by Verizon and Sprint, by 4 to 1. The Japanese anomaly Travelers heading to Japan face a whole different ballgame. When you go there, your GSM phone won’t work. You have to have a 3G (third generation) phone, which you can get in from http://www.planetomni.com/3G_CELLS_planetomni.shtml. 3G refers to the technology that gives cell phone users the “broadband experience” of a laptop with its high speed and data capacity. While such phones are just starting to come out in the United States, they don’t operate on the same frequencies as they do in Japan or Europe. A 3G phone purchased in the United States and taken to Europe would roll onto the networks there fine — but would operate as a 2G or “second generation” phone there, with limited data capacity. Travelers from Japan or Europe to the United States will find that their 3G phones will roam on Cingular or T-Mobile 2G networks but without the 3G roaming experience they are used to. Here are some fantastic looking new 3G cell phones: http://www.planetomni.com/3G_CELLS_planetomni.shtml Roaming worldwide Either of the international sim cards linked about work in most of the world’s countries. How Pre-Paid SIMs Work This is the easiest part. Pre-paid SIMs start with a monetary balance on the account. As you make calls, the charges are deducted from the credit available based on the per-minute rates. Rates will vary depending on the carrier’s policies, whether local, to a local cell phone, or international. The rates are included with the SIM card packaging. In almost all European and Western countries, incoming calls are free. When your call credit gets low, you drop by any convenience store or newspaper stand and buy a little scratch off voucher from the same company as the SIM in your phone. Enter the secret code from the voucher into the phone’s automated top-up system, and the voucher’s credit is added to your account. It’s a free call to check your balance and to add more credit. It’s like getting gas in your car and something millions of people around then world do everyday. If you don’t want to stop frequently, buy a large denomination card, such as a 50-Euro. Multi-Country Trips For trips to more than one country, it is easier to use an international pre-paid SIM card that works in many countries. Planet Omni has an International sim card that gives you free incoming calls all over Europe and it is less than $1.00 a minute for outgoing calls to Europe or the US (when used in Europe). It works in a total of 110+ countries. The pre-paid international SIM a great product for travel to more than one country. It keeps you from having to buy multiple SIMs and changing phone numbers and rates in each country. It provides seamless roaming from door to door. Cell phone use overseas. In 99% of the world the local cellular service standard is called GSM. We use this in the states as well. When combined with a SIM CARD (which usually goes under the battery of the phone) the phone is able to communicate and the SIM CARD also holds the telephone number and memory for pre-paid credit. Rates can be extremely low using this system. For example in 99% of all SIM CARDS incoming calls are free and calls to the states can cost a trifle. Such as, from the UK to the USA 7 cents/minute, from Israel 22 cents, from Australia 27 cents. Yes, USA Dollar cents! There are today even prepaid service providers in the USA offering rates of 10 cents per minute to call anywhere in the US to any type of phone. No contracts, no credit card checks, no bills. Pre-paid always means no minimums no contracts, no obligations. You only pay for the calls made. You’ll need an unlocked GSM tri-band or quadband UNLOCKED phone. You can buy factory unlocked phones and sim cards for more than 170 or the 193 countries on earth from http://www.planetomni.com Tel. # 800-514-2984 Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=John_Dulaney http://EzineArticles.com/?Can-I-Buy-SIM-Cards-Overseas-When-I-Get-There?&id=286367 asian these teen what sex by thailand under type would diabetes because symptoms could http many orgy do home like content there cf do pussy where spreading all lesbians might evy because gav up anal he

Middle School Bullying Stopped with a Party!

By Paula McCoach Super Charge your Bully Zapper Mentor Program with a party at the beginning of the school year. Arm your bully victims with tools in September, so they are ready for the bullies right away! Goal setting each quarter is a valuable tool to use to connect with your mentee in a positive way. Setting goals is also gives your mentor/mentee relationship a focus. Here are 5 ways to set goals with your mentee and have fun too! 1. Set a date a week ahead of time to have a mentor/mentee getting-to-know-you reception. 2. Buy some simple refreshments. At our reception we had juice boxes, small bottles of water, packages of chips and nuts and some candy 3. Extend the time of the reception to stretch across all lunch shifts, so mentors can stop in with their mentee when it is convenient for them. 4. Provide a quiet place for them to have their refreshments and set their goals. 5. Provide the following Goal Sheet for them to use as a guide. The goal theme, refreshments and quiet place to talk provided a perfect combination for getting our program off to a positive start. Many mentees stapled their goals in a prominent place in their school agendas, so they could see them daily. Mentors can check with their mentees weekly and remind them of their goals. I try to reward my mentees when they achieve one of their short-term goals that will help them reach their long-term quarter goal. When a bully approaches them, they have their Bully Zapping plan ready and they can refer to it quickly. For example, one of my mentees goals was to make the honor roll for the first quarter. The following week she showed me a quiz where she earned an A! I gave her a small reward and a great deal of encouragement to stay on the right track and keep her goal in mind! Simple activities like a lunchtime reception can have help establish a supportive relationship between mentor and mentee and get your program off to a super start.Armed with Bully Zapping tools at the beginning of the school year will ensure your mentee will get the school year off on the right (bully-free) foot! Storage Sheds

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By Marcus Peterson Storage sheds are buildings that are used primarily to store unused household articles that may be used sometime in future. They may contain various hardware articles, vessels, toys, sports goods, or junk. As storage sheds are used chiefly as storehouses, they are devoid of any furniture, expect maybe some wall cupboards and racks or simply shelves attached to their walls. These sheds have small windows and double hinged-doors that are designed to be wide enough to facilitate moving equipment in and out of them. Storage sheds do not contain much of lighting and ventilation. It is very important to have pest control done in storage sheds because they can be a breeding ground for insects and rodents. It is also very important to decide the proper material while building a storage shed. Choice of material depends on what the shed will be used to store. Wood must be of good quality like cedar; otherwise it may house cockroaches and other insects. Wood also rots after prolonged exposure to moisture. Despite all of this, wood can provide an added aesthetic appeal to the shed. Poly vinyl carbonate is a good material to construct storage sheds because it resists corrosion, is unaffected by heat and insects, and is also cheap and durable. An industrial storage shed must be ideally made of a metal like steel or aluminum. The size of storage sheds depends on the amount of articles that need to be stored in them. A normal sized shed with a floor area of 10 feet by 10 feet can easily house a garden tractor, but if the space within the storage shed is not enough, then there are other add-ons that can provide more space. The three main add-on sheds are corner sheds, horizontal sheds, and vertical sheds. Corner sheds can fit in a corner and are about 3 feet by 3 feet by 2 feet. Vertical and horizontal sheds fit into the main shed and they may be 5 feet by 3 feet by 4 feet. There can be more space-oriented additions to a storage shed like constructing a loft or using the space under the windows. Storage sheds usually contain the junk of the house or unneeded articles that one doesn’t feel like discarding yet. Sheds should be elegantly designed; otherwise, they may mar the entire appearance of the house. Sheds provides detailed information about sheds, how to build a shed, metal sheds and more. Sheds is affiliated with Modular Home Plans. Thoughts Do Count to Succeed in Losing Weight, My Friend

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Foras Aje I know this is about weight loss, but like every thing in life, it is safe to draw from a very succinct verse in the Bible: As a man thinks in his heart, so is he In regards to succeeding at losing weight, this is indeed very true. Everyone is what and where they are now based on what they thought or spoke of their situations and lives a few years back and to focus on that aspect alone, when it comes to weight loss, it goes without saying that to succeed at it, some mental habits to lose weight may need to be applied. Now, we all know every action is based or rooted in a thought; that considered here are some mental habits you can strive to make realities through your actions towards losing weight starting now. 1. Think of being active at all times. 2. Be around like minded individuals who ACTUALLY ARE TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT AND ARE DOING SOMETING ABOUT THAT! 3. Learn to be stress free. The less anxiety, the more you can relax and not reach for food to calm you down. 4. Envision what you want to look like with your weight loss and exercise routine, if you can see it, then you can be it. 5. Stop thinking about your diet. You should view this as a way of life. Heres a helpful suggestion that would ensure you dont become overly obsessed with counting calories and measurements etc go for the Mucus-less diet healing system of raw and/or properly cooked fruits, leafy and root vegetables intermingled with short juice fasts and restricted mono-meals of seasonal fruits. 6. Do the exercises that you like. When you enjoy doing something, you will naturally look forward to doing it more often. Powerful thoughts and behaviors make your weight loss programs succeed, not necessarily the programs themselves. Even on days when it seems like you cant hang remember this quote:Weak is he who allows negative thoughts to control his actions, strong is he who forces his words and actions to control his thoughts, so if you have to force or literally command yourself to do something, then so be it, do just that. Hey, a thought is driving you to do just that right? Heres to health and wellness. Foras Aje is an independent researcher and co-founder of BodyHealthSoul LLC.
